Elaine Howard Ecklund is the Herbert S. Autrey Chair in Social Sciences and Professor of Sociology at Rice University, as well as founding director of the Religion and Public Life Program. Her current research addresses how individuals use race, gender, and religious identities to bring changes to religious and scientific institutions. She is the author of more than 40 peer-reviewed articles, two books with Oxford University Press, a forthcoming book with NYU Press, and a forthcoming book with Oxford University Press. She has received grants from the National Science Foundation, Russell Sage Foundation, John Templeton Foundation, and Society for the Scientific Study of Religion. Her research has been cited over 1,000 times by local, national, and international media. In 2013, she received Rice University's Charles O. Duncan Award for Most Outstanding Academic Achievement and Teaching. She has directed over 70 undergraduates in conducting research.

Senior Research Project Manager

Laura S. Achenbaum is the Senior Research Project Manager for the Religion and Public Life Program. She is responsible for overseeing all research activities for the program and for personnel management. Achenbaum joined the RPLP in 2013, having previously worked at Baylor College of Medicine, where she gained extensive experience managing every stage of qualitative research projects. Achenbaum earned a B.A. from New York University, an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Houston, and has published on research ethics and emerging genomic technologies.

Dan Bolger
Post-Baccalaureate Fellow

In his work as a Post-Baccalaureate Fellow, Dan Bolger is currently working on the Religion among Scientists in International Context (RASIC) project as well as the Religion and Inequality in Science Education (RISE) project. Dan graduated summa cum laude from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 2013 with an M.A. in Mental Health Counseling and an M.A. in Christian Studies along with his B.S. in Psychology from John Brown University.

Hayley Hemstreet
Program Manager and Faculty Representative

Hayley Hemstreet is Program Manager of RPLP and Faculty Representative. Her role at RPLP involves managing day-to-day operations and coordinating program events. Her Faculty Representative work is assisting Prof. Ecklund in her roles as Director of the program and Autrey Professor of Sociology. Hayley is a recent Rice University graduate, having completed a dual major in History and Environmental Science.
