The Religion and Public Life Program (RPLP) hosted How SCIENCE Can Strengthen the FAITH of Your CHURCH, an online conference focused on the relationship between Christianity and science. Elaine Howard Ecklund, RPLP director and professor of sociology at Rice University, opened the conference with this plenary session. She introduced us to her most recent book, Why Science and Faith Need Each Other: Eight Shared Values That Move Us beyond Fear, which informed and inspired the themes of the conference. Ecklund also spoke about several of the key virtues highlighted in her book and addressed later in the conference, including curiosity and shalom, and her motivations for writing the book, to be a practical resource to churches.
